Last gathering for 2014

Today we visited a rammed earth house, learnt to make gnocchi and a solar oven, and toured a thriving Permaculture garden after a delicious shared lunch:

Solar ovens can be made from any salvaged materials. Today we used 2 cardboard boxes so that the 1 inch gap between them could be filled with insulation (we used egg box cartons - could be roof insulation, ash, etc):

An old piece of perspex to close the box (better if it were double with air gap between [could be glass too]). Lined inside and reflectors with shiny builders paper and shiny tape):

Cooking vessel should be black to absorb heat:

Outside bathroom built with mostly recycled materials and solar hot water is gravity fed:

Well mulched Permaculture garden, recently netted for some shade:
